Generally, people have two half queen mattresses to fit comfortably. For these, you need speciality half-queen fitted sheets.

California Queen

California queen sheets are wider than half queens. For these, you need 60 inches wide, and 84 inches long queen size fitted sheets.

  • King Size Sheet Size

King bed sheets are the largest of all bedsheets. This bed can easily fit two adult sleepers, two adults with a kid. Due to the size, king-size bed accessories are usually costly.

Types of Sheets

  • Fitted Sheet

A fitted sheet is made to fit perfectly on your mattress. It has elastic in the corners for a better grip. If it’s too big, it may fall off. If it’s too small for the mattress, it will be difficult for the elastic to reach the corners.

  • Flat Sheet

As the name suggests, they are to lie flat on the mattress. Flat sheets should be larger than your mattress to fit perfectly. The extra fabric is meant to be tucked under the mattress.

  • Duvet

A thick blanket filled with down, feathers, wool, or any synthetic material is a duvet. It lies on the top of your bed and covers the sides of your bed.

  • Bed Skirt

A bed skirt wraps the bottom of your mattress. Its primary role is to hide the space between the bed and the floor.

How to Measure a Fitted Sheet?

First thing first. Remove the bed sheet from the bed before you measure any bedding sizes. Measure the height of the mattress. Don’t forget to include the mattress toppers in your dimensions. Your fitted sheet should be the same or slightly larger than the recorded measurements.

The next step is to measure the fitted sheet. Measure the sheet from one corner to the other. You have to measure the length as well as the width. In the end, calculate the fitted sheet along with the pocket seam. This will help you get the height.

These measurements should be equal to or a little larger than the mattress measurements.

Things to Consider

  • Mattress Depth

Many people use mattress toppers for extra support on their mattresses. A mattress topper will add depth to the bed. While measuring the mattress, make sure you also consider the mattress topper.

  • Washing Your Sheets

Make sure you wash your bedsheet after you buy them. If they shrink after the wash, they will not fit your mattress.

Summing It Up

Now you know almost everything about measuring the bedsheets. You can now easily buy the perfect size bed sheet for your mattress. Make sure you use the proper techniques to take the measurements.

FAQs

Even a slight difference in size makes it difficult to put a fitted bed sheet on the mattress, but some full sheets can be used on a queen bed.

  • Flat sheets are used on top, whereas a fitted sheet is used on the bottom.
  • Flat sheets are rectangular sheets. A fitted sheet has its corners fitted with elastic.

Materials for bedsheets:

  • Upland Cotton: These are cost-effective, soft, and are readily available.
  • Egyptian Cotton: These are strong, soft, flexible, breathable but expensive.
  • Pima Cotton: These are strong, soft, flexible, but costly.
  • Supima Cotton: These are strong, comfortable, retain colour, hypoallergenic but costly.
  • Flannel: These are extremely warm, inexpensive but too heavy for warm seasons, not breathable.
  • Silk: These are incredibly soft, comfortable, naturally hypoallergenic. But silk sheets are costly and require delicate care.
  • Tencel: These sheets absorb moisture exceptionally well but are not 100% hypoallergenic.
  • Bamboo: These are soft and silky, durable, breathable.
  • Linen: These are extremely strong and get more comfortable over time. However, these feel slightly stiff, wrinkles easily.
  • Polyester: These are inexpensive, durable, stain and wrinkle-resistant. But it does not absorb water, less cooling.

If you buy standard quality bed sheets, you should purchase new bed sheets every 2 or 3 years.
